Music & HymnsBlessed Assurance

"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith." Hebrews 10:21-22

Words: Frances Jane (Fanny) Crosby, 1873:

My friend, Mrs. Joseph F. Knapp, composed a melody and played it over to me two or three times on the piano. She then asked what it said. I replied, "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!"

Music: "Assurance," Phoebe Palmer Knapp, 1873

This hymn was sung in the 1985 Academy Award winning movie, "Trip to Bountiful."

Blessèd assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
